China’s digital entry card moves part of the arrival form away from the airport desk, but it does not move the border decision into an app. The card records traveler and itinerary details; it does not replace a passport, visa where required, supporting documents or an officer’s checks. The safest workflow is simple: establish whether the form applies, use a responsible official channel, enter exact information and keep an arrival fallback.
What the digital card changes
The December 2025 report described an electronic alternative to completing a paper arrival form line by line after landing. Preparing in advance can reduce avoidable typing under time pressure and gives the traveler a chance to compare names, flight details and accommodation information against confirmed documents.
It should not be described as guaranteed fast-track entry. Queue length, inspection needs, system availability and document questions remain outside the traveler’s control. A QR code confirms submission of information; it is not proof of entry eligibility.
Step 1: confirm whether the form applies
Different traveler categories may follow different arrival procedures. The archived report listed exemptions for some residents, permit holders, group arrangements, airside transit passengers, certain cruise passengers, express channels and operating crew. Because definitions and procedures can change, do not self-exempt from a shortened label. Check the current responsible guidance and match it to the traveler’s exact document and movement through the port.
Every traveler should still carry the passport and any visa or supporting evidence required for the trip. Families should verify whether accompanying travelers can be included together and ensure every name and document number is correct.
Step 2: prepare the data before opening the form
Have the passport biographical page, confirmed arrival service, first-night accommodation name and address, contact details and onward plan ready. Copy names in the same order and spelling shown on the passport. Use the real flight, train, ship or other arrival identifier requested by the form; do not guess from a booking marketing name.
Complete the form when those details are stable enough to verify. Submitting too early can create a mismatch after a flight or hotel change. Submitting only after landing can add pressure and dependence on airport connectivity. The archived report suggested one or two days before departure as a practical window, but current instructions take priority.
Step 3: use the responsible official channel
Start from the current National Immigration Administration service or another channel that the responsible authority identifies, such as its official application or mini program. Check the domain or verified service identity before uploading a passport image. The arrival card itself should not be treated as a paid visa service; avoid look-alike pages that charge for copying data into a free form.
Step 4: verify, save and update
Review document number, nationality, name, arrival service, date and accommodation before submitting. Save the resulting confirmation or QR code offline and make sure it remains readable without roaming. A companion should know where the document is stored if the booking phone is unavailable.
If a material detail changes or an error is found, follow the current official process for correction or resubmission and retain the newest version. Do not rely on an old screenshot after changing a flight. The form is trip-specific, so a future entry normally requires a new current record.
Arrival day: keep a low-tech fallback
Carry a charged phone, but also keep the first hotel’s name and address, arrival service and important contact details in an offline note. If the electronic service is unavailable, follow airport or port staff instructions for the accepted alternative. Build reasonable time between arrival and any separate onward booking.
