Guangzhou Weather in July

 Season: Summer
Guangzhou’s weather in July feels oppressive and muggy, intensified by the humid air. July is also the rainy season, mostly caused by typhoons. So the rain usually comes down heavily. Despite that, July is a peak travel season, with crowded attractions and skyrocketing travel costs. Thus, July is not recommended for visiting Guangzhou.

Hot Climate

In July, Guangzhou’s climate is pretty hot, with daytime highs of 29-35 degrees Celsius (84-95 degrees Fahrenheit). Over the past five years, every July, the number of days with persistent high-temperature has been significant, ranging from 7 to 23 days. This means in July there are at least 7 days with highs over 35°C (95°F) in a row. You can tell how hot the weather is in July. Even at night, the temperature won’t cool down much, with nighttime lows of 25-27 degrees Celsius (77-81 degrees Fahrenheit). Moreover, the phenomenon of “hot nights” has become increasingly prevalent in Guangzhou, which is low temperature at night reaches 28°C (82°F) or higher. In the Tianhe Road commercial district, nighttime high temperatures in July can reach as high as 32°C (90°F). It’s really challenging to go out, even at night.

Abundant Rainfall

July marks the early typhoon season, characterized by a period of high temperatures followed by rain. The average monthly precipitation is 233 mm from 16 rainy days. The rain usually is in the form of short and intense downpours that occur suddenly, rather than continuous rainfall, which might lead to localized short-term flooding. However, in exceptional years, such as July 2026, it rained off and on for 20 days.

High Humidity Level

The air in July remains humid, with an average humidity level of 82%. This makes the perceived temperature higher, feeling like being in a steamer, muggy and sticky. If it rains, humidity can reach as high as 98%, making people feel even more uncomfortable.

Sunshine Hours and Daylight Hours

Sunrise Time: 5:44-5:57
Sunset Time: 19:09-19:16
Daylight Hours: 13H12M-13H32M

Guangzhou in July experiences relatively long daylight hours, so visitors don’t have to rush into travel schedules. However, as in the rainy season, sunshine hours are limited, about 7 hours per day on average. Despite that, the peak UV rays are quite intense, with the highest UV index of 11. Therefore, sunscreen is necessary to protect skin from sunburn.

July is a perfect month to enjoy stunning sunset views. The air is rich with moisture, there are multiple cloud layers due to the rainy season, and the sunlight refracts intensely at sunset, creating an evening glow with red, orange and even pink and purple hues. Before or after a typhoon, layers of clouds overlap, resulting in an even more breathtaking sunset. Here is a tip for predicting sunset skies: if the forecast calls for overcast or rainy conditions all day, you are unlikely to spot a sunset; if the forecast says there will only be a brief period of rain, and no rain after 17:00, you can head out to watch the sunset.

What to Wear for Guangzhou Trip in July 2027

Guangzhou Clothes in July
Upper clothing: To alleviate the sticky feelings when walking outside in Guangzhou, it’s best to wear T-shirts in breathable and quick-dry material. A light sun-protective jacket is also necessary for indoor spaces with strong air-conditioning and protection from intense sunshine.

Bottom clothing: Opt for shorts or light pants in cotton fabrics. Girls are advised to wear skirts or dresses in light material.

Footwear: Due to the frequent rainy weather, non-slip sandals are perfect. Breathable sneakers are also recommended.

 Accessories:
1. It’s essential to pack a raincoat or an umbrella.
2. Sunscreen and a sun hat help to protect you from sunburn.
3. It’s easy to get stung in July, so don’t forget to pack insect repellent.
4. When you wait in lines outdoors on sunny days, a portable fan can help a lot.

Travel Recommendations and Tips

1. July coincides with China’s summer holiday, when most schools are out. Guangzhou, as a popular travel destination, attracts countless families and students this month. There’s no doubt that attractions are packed with tourists. Hotel prices and flight tickets also soar dramatically. If you visit the city in July, you might not have a perfect travel experience.
2. If you are only available this month, you can refer to the following tips.
(1). Start your day as early as possible. Before 10:00, it is not quite hot yet, and there are relatively fewer people, making it a great time to take a leisurely stroll and snap photos without crowds interrupting. Places like Shamian Island, Yongqingfang and Chen Clan Ancestral Hall are ideal places to taste the authentic feeling of Guangzhou.
(2). Stay indoors between 11:00 and 17:00. During this period, the weather feels oppressively hot. You are recommended to visit Guangdong Museum with strong air-conditioning and the Museum of Nan Yue King’s Mausoleum, an underground burial chamber. Alternatively, have a rest at a teahouse, enjoy delicious food at Dim Sum restaurants, or go shopping in the malls.
(3). After 17:30, it’s the perfect time to visit the Canton Tower and take a night cruise on the Pearl River. If you are lucky enough, you can also spot colorful sunset views. At night, the city comes alive, with stunning light shows and lively night markets.
3. The rainy season doesn’t mean you have to stay cooped up indoors. If the prediction says it won’t rain all day long, plan a day tour at Chimelong Safari Park. On rainy days, the temperature feels cooler, making animals more lively. Plus, crowds also thin out during the rainy weather. Even if the rain comes down heavily all of a sudden, don’t worry. Just head to an indoor exhibit to continue your exploration. When you finish the indoor exploration, the rain might have stopped. There are also many sheltered places in the park.
