Count nights rather than destination names. A late arrival and early departure do not create two sightseeing days. If a route includes a mountain park, river cruise or remote community, add weather flexibility instead of scheduling a critical departure immediately afterward.
Choose Neighborhoods Before Hotels
Start with the places you will visit, the station or airport you will use, and the evenings you want. Then choose a hotel near useful transport without accepting unnecessary noise or an isolated business district. In very large cities, a lower room rate can be erased by long daily commutes.
Confirm that the property accepts the travel document used by international guests and can complete required accommodation registration. Check the exact bed arrangement, lift access, breakfast hours, heating or cooling season, and the walking route from the nearest station.
Move Through Cities Efficiently
- Save hotel, station and attraction names in Chinese for drivers and station staff.
- Build each day by district to reduce repeated cross-city journeys.
- Carry a usable payment mix and a modest backup rather than depending on one app or card.
- Leave extra time for security at major stations, museums and public landmarks.
- Confirm the last metro, park shuttle, ferry or cableway before an evening plan.
- Use a licensed vehicle for remote day trips and agree on pickup details in writing.
Food, Weather and Local Rhythm
Regional food is part of the destination. Beijing, Sichuan, Jiangnan, Shaanxi, Yunnan and Cantonese traditions differ in staple grains, seasoning, cooking methods and meal rhythm. Use the Chinese food guide as a starting point, then ask what is characteristic of the specific city.
China spans several climate zones. A comfortable month in Shanghai may be hot in Guilin, dusty in the northwest or cold at elevation.
